Chairman's greeting

We have established Japan ESD Association (JEA), a NPO ESD Association, for the purpose of improving ESD management and techniques. The organization’s main tasks are to provide information and intelligence, to improve public awareness, to undertake investigative research, to hold trainings/seminars, and to create an ESD database.

The problem of ESD damage that occurs during the manufacturing process of electronic devices and parts was firstly identified in the late 1970s. Today, devices like semiconductors, hard disk drives, and LCDs are becoming more high speed and more highly integrated, making them more susceptible to damage. For this reason, it is of the utmost importance that companies need to take appropriate actions against ESD problems.

Competitions among companies in the world market and the developments of advanced technologies have intensified in today’s borderless economy. Electric, and electronic companies, as well as research institutes and material manufacturers involved in ESD issues, have requested that we should create a constructive meeting place where the latest information and intelligence on ESD control technologies can be exchanged.

Moreover, we would like to expand our ESD network to include organizations in the U.S., as well as in countries throughout Europe and Asia, in the hope that it lead to increase information exchanging with those countries.

From industrial standpoints, we also believe that it is necessary for us to help improving Japan's international position as a global standard.
